I paint people and places I know. People I admire. People I want to be close to. Look at. Influenced by my experiences as a second generation American of Filipino immigrants my father, Sargeant First Class, US Army, was stationed on Okinawa, a US protectorate, during the formative years of my life. I went on to become an occupational therapist, psychiatrist, psychoanalyst and artist to further my understanding of myself as a woman, of color, a mother of biracial sons, a second generation American, a human being figuring the tension of my place and meaning in the world through art.
